Andrew Davis 10C Self Portrait

Artist Statement

For my Self Portrait I decided to take a picture of me underwater. My metaphor is whoever tries to knock me down I can get always get back up. The bubbled mean that I am breaking free from all of my emotions and nothing can stand in my way. This project really had me think about what I believe in life.

Trail and Error
I had 2 different ideas before I chose the one of my underwater. I was going to do a picture with me and the acting symbol masks on, but it didnt work cause I couldn't find the masks. My 2nd idea was that I was going to take a picture of me with childish things such as....... a bouncy ball and a hoolahoop. I had the picture but when I switched it into a negative I didn't like the way it looked.

Your self portrait Design/Composition Create a final black and white image that demonstrates an understanding of the aesthetics of Photography including editing.	Several of the elements in the photo used in the reflect an exceptional degree of student creativity in their creation. Uses of compositional rules are evident and appropriate to the theme. Objects are placed for best effect. Overall, it just feels right. .	One or two of the graphics or objects used reflect student creativity in their creation and/or display. Graphics are trimmed to an appropriate size and interesting shape and are arranged with some items in front and others behind. The canvas, however does not appear balanced. Uses of compositional rules are good and the composition is relatively balanced, but negative space could be utilized better to create a more cohesive feel.	One or two graphics or objects were made or customized by the student, but the ideas were typical rather than creative (.e.g, apply the emboss filter to a drawing in Photoshop). Graphics have been trimmed to an appropriate size and shape, but the arrangement of items is not very attractive. It appears there was not a lot of planning of the item placementThe portrait seems to have a little too much background or seems a little too busy. Balance has not been achieved. Time and Effort	Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and creation of the portrait. It is clear the students worked at home as well as at school.
