For my self portrait, I used two images of myself- one for each profile of my face. I chose to do this because the sides of my face are different from the fact that my head was cracked open as a small child, leaving a prominent scar that happens to go straight through my left eyebrow. Because of this, the left and right side of my face have different proportions due to scar tissue. I usually darken my scar to lessen the effect, but for the photograph I removed all makeup to show how it really is. I chose to do this for my self portrait because there is always two sides, if not more, to everything and everyone; very little is truly one-dimensional. The photo is not to be interpreted at being two-faced, but rather how everyone is not just "one" face so to speak.
Trials and Errors:
The most difficult part of making this portrait was the actual taking of the photograph. By the time I realized I had no remote to take the photograph and my tripod was lost in the depths of my basement, it was too late. It took an excruciating amount of time to take two photographs of my profile that matched in perspective and had some sort of symmetry. Once I finally took two that matched, it was relatively simple to photoshop them into my desired image. The darkroom aspect of the project went smoothly other than resizing my digital file a few times to fit the negative properly.
