What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

Haleigh Rimland self-portrait

Artist Statement- In my self-portrait, I am in a corn maze. In this photo I wanted to convey myself not knowing what will come in the future for me and I that am not sure what lies ahead. I picked a corn maze because to me it represents my journey through life, that it is full of obstacles and I can choose any road I want. The reason why I am wearing a blindfold is because it symbolizes the blindness to my future and road ahead of me. In addition I am raising my arms in this picture to show my uncertainty of what I want out of life and what I will get.

Trail and Error Process- For this photo shoot I had my talented friend Lea Winkler take these photos for me. We started out in the statue garden in South Hampton. When we got there, there was this big ugly white tent next to it, so we tried to avoid it as much as we could. Lea took some awesome photos with a really long shutter speed, so it captured a kind of ghost like effect and it looked almost like I was moving through time. After the statue garden we went to the Mecox corn maze in Water Mill. Lea went up on the over look bridge and got some cool aerial pictures of me. Overall I think the shoot went pretty well and I am extremely happy with the results.
