Artist statement

The Ocean in the background represents my love for the ocean and the freedom of such a vast expanse. I have always been around the ocean throughout my life and I feel it has become an essential part of me. I have my arms up because I want to take flight over the ocean and explore more of the world. The grass represents the tangled barrier keeping down from my dreams of flying. The eye in the center of my chest represents unity of the world and how I want to see with my heart rather than my rational mind.

Trial and Error

It was very difficult for me to use photoshop to add the image of an eye to the background image, with only my limited knowledge of the workings of photoshop. Also the actual capturing was of the image was tricky. i had to retake my image several times before i really got all the aspects that i wanted.

Your self portrait Design/Composition Create a final black and white image that demonstrates an understanding of the aesthetics of Photography including editing.	Several of the elements in the photo used in the reflect an exceptional degree of student creativity in their creation. Uses of compositional rules are evident and appropriate to the theme. Objects are placed for best effect. Overall, it just feels right. .	One or two of the graphics or objects used reflect student creativity in their creation and/or display. Graphics are trimmed to an appropriate size and interesting shape and are arranged with some items in front and others behind. The canvas, however does not appear balanced. Uses of compositional rules are good and the composition is relatively balanced, but negative space could be utilized better to create a more cohesive feel.	One or two graphics or objects were made or customized by the student, but the ideas were typical rather than creative (.e.g, apply the emboss filter to a drawing in Photoshop). Graphics have been trimmed to an appropriate size and shape, but the arrangement of items is not very attractive. It appears there was not a lot of planning of the item placementThe portrait seems to have a little too much background or seems a little too busy. Balance has not been achieved. Time and Effort	Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and creation of the portrait. It is clear the students worked at home as well as at school.
