What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

I ended up making two self-portraits. My original one didn’t come out as planned because one of the images I added in was low quality. I then decided to make a new one.

First one: In my original photo, I really wanted to portray how I wear beautiful mask during the day. The mask isn’t necessarily a lie about who I am, but it just brings out the good and excepted while hiding the bad and introverted. At school, or anywhere public or social, you’re expected to be smiling, happy, and confident all the time. Sometimes it’s just easier to go with it, and just put on a mask. The stars in the background represent my love of the universe, something not many people know. I’m actually planning on majoring in astrophysics, and the universe has always been interesting to.

Second: In my redo, I concentrated more on my love for the universe. The universe means a lot to my symbolically and physically. Physically, as stated before, it’s something that I love and I’m interested in. It represents my future. Symbolically, the universe means a lot of things. The universe is a huge, vast, undefined space. You can see the past but can’t see the future. The universe is everything.
