What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

Artist statement: My collage is an attempt to show one’s relationship with the natural world and shows the human journey through life. The man walking into the distance is you or me walking through life. On the way of the journey you can see everything that is beautiful, the natural world, there to be appreciated by the only conscious life forms. All life is together as one. Each and every life form is its own system and has its own cycle and it is connected to many larger systems and cycles. These miraculous oddities that seem common to us should be appreciated to the fullest extent, which I am still trying to do. After the long walk is over, past the canyons, past the hills, my death and yours can be symbolized as walking into the peaceful, blue sky.

Philosophical Paragraph: We live our lives searching for meaning in everything. We feel like we need a purpose, a reason for getting up in the morning. The fact of the matter is that there is no purpose for this life or even the next, nor is there a reason for all of us as life forms to continue and reproduce and adapt, but we still do; that’s why life is so beautiful. We are here on this planet to perceive, contemplate, and to appreciate this insane phenomenon.
