Artist statement
The main idea of my collage was dreams and realities. On the bottom of the collage are all of the things that are happening and that will most likely happen. As you start to move up the collage you start to see the things that, at this point in my life, I can only dream of happening. For instance at the bottom of the collage there is a picture of Roger Federer hitting a tennis ball right next to college. That represents me using tennis as something that, I not only love, but a tool to help get me into a good college. I put the scale into my collage because I really feel that right now and throughout the rest of my life I will be trying to find a good balance between work and play. Finally I put the Forbes Magazine cover with a question mark over the man’s face in because hopefully someday that will be me.
Personal philosophy
Personal philosophy isn’t something that I enjoy thinking about because it is a mind bottling subject. To me it is important that since I am living in a high stress environment due to tennis and school I find time to just relax. Because of the history of my family and their addiction problems one thing that is really important to me is being able to find alternatives to my problems and not just sinking in to habits. One way that I move away from habits is actually exercising. Exercise really takes my mind away from what is currently happening around me. Finally I like to know that the way I am occupying my time is worthwhile. I am not someone who likes to just sit and do nothing because I realized with the passing of my grandmother that life isn’t really that long and I don’t want to waste my time. That is one reason that I am so avidly perusing tennis because whether I make it to the professional level or not it gives me advantages for college, which in turn gives me advantages for the rest of my life.
The incorporation of the magazine and the foreground with Federer is interesting.
