What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

collage!!!

Artist Statement-

The main idea I am trying to convey in my collage is how I try hard to understand other people’s point of view and respecting differences between all different types of people. I put a picture of a Muslim woman who looked somewhat frightened looking up at two beautiful models. The idea I am trying to convey is my belief that even if someone isn’t perfect like in the way society portrays beauty, they can still be confident. I showed that as well by having pictures of two very different women from different lifestyles where the poor woman looks just as confident as the model. Next, I put a picture of a girl with a princess crown who is looking into the distance as if she is completely oblivious of the small run-down town below her because I wanted that to represent the way I try not to act. The picture of an African-American man who is not dressed very nicely next to two high-class fancy people is there because I wanted that to represent how I believe everyone is equal and everyone should be treated as equals no matter what they have or what they look like. On the top of my collage, I put a picture of two girls acting silly because I wanted that to represent the friendly side of my personality. I also put a similar picture of two poor children next to the girls because I wanted it to portray that you don’t have to look as beautiful as them or have what they have to be just as happy as they are.
