What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

Collage, Artist Statement -Jeff Park

Artist Statement

My collage is composed of the images that represent my philosophical ideas. Most evidently, there is a picture of my face in the center. Around my face, there is a third eye, brain, question mark, crosses, fish, two children, arms and rain boots. They are all organized to form a human body. Each images represent:

Third Eye: represents observance, consciousness and knowledge.

Brain: represents that I should be consistently thinking about my actions and decisions.

Question Mark: represents that I should question my decisions if they are also beneficial to others. Also, it represents that I should realize what situation I’m in and act accordingly.

Crosses: represents that I should always be aware of my religion and act according to its virtues.

Fish: represents that I should be always smiling like the shape of the fish and engage in my activities lively.

Children: represents inside of me that I should be helpful and cooperative.

Arms: represents how I want to impact/reach out to the world.

Rain Boots: represents that rain (obstacles) should not hinder my way.

More images in my work branch off from the arms and relate to my philosophy, what I want to do and how I want to impact the world. The arms link my goals and ideas that are symbolized by these images. Starting on my right arm, there are images of Africa, medical aid, working tools, NEVER STOP, and a horse.

Africa: represents that I want to visit Africa and help out

Medical Care: represents that I want to participate in medical care in Africa (Sacrifice for others).

Working Tools: represents labor and hard working

NEVER STOP: represents my motto, to never give up and work persistently.

Horse: represents that I should work to my fullest and hardest.

To my left arm, there is another set of images that represent me: big eye, a girl burning, woman getting beaten up, man looking up at a totem pole.

Big Eye: represents my concern and awareness for the problems in the world.

A Girl Burning: represents how I want to save and help people suffering.

Woman getting beaten up: another image that represents how I want to save people from torture.

Man looking up at a totem pole: represents that I should be aware of my limitations

  1. I like that everything on your collage represents a particular part of your philosophy.
