Artist Statement
My collage is a representation of my beliefs, my characteristics, and most importantly my self. I wanted to convey a message about my philosophical thoughts on life. Within this collage I have shown that I believe that no matter how insignificant you are compared to the rest of the world, you can still do something great. Also I believe you can soar as high as you want to, and life is short so you should live it to the fullest extent possible. Finally everyone is different but should be treated equally. I have portrayed these beliefs through my images of mountains, candles, a kite, and different colored nails. I also used images to represent myself. I used images of nature and New York City to represent the two environments in which I live. I used images of lips, letters, books, and writing implements to represent my love of writing, knowledge, and expression. I used quotes that I thought were representative of my beliefs. Finally I used jewels and an eye to show that I have the ability to always find the beauty in everything. Through my collage I showed that I am self-conscious, and vulnerable but I always strive to be the best person I can. I feel this project was an important journey for me to take, because it let me reassess my values, and determine what is important to me.
Philosophical Paragraph
I believe that life is short and you should try to live it to the fullest extent possible. Don't let predestination rule your life, and if something needs to be done do it, don't wait for others to tell you how. You should treat others as you would expect to be treated, and you should always help others in times of need. Anything you think worth fighting for, probably is, and although you are insignificant compared to the rest of the universe, you can still do something great. Finally remember the quote "know thy self in order to serve", meaning in order to serve society you must first know yourself, and know what is important to you.
I like how you used pictures of the city and of the nature to represent in what environment you live.
