Artist's Statement: In my collage, I wanted to portray happiness, hard work, life’s journey, fun, and exploring all of life’s options. In the top left corner of my collage there is an image of a woman hiking through cliffs, and on the bottom left corner there is an image of a girl peeking through a hole in the wall, exploring something, These images to me represented exploring all of life’s options, so I wanted to include them in my collage. On the top of my collage in the center, it says “under the big sky.” This refers to all that life has to offer, and how we are all as people, under the big sky together. The words on my collage “so much to love” refer again to how much there is to love in life. The words “go ahead, take the plunge” and “take a dip” refer to taking chances to seeing what there is out there. The images of the manatees holding hands, the many men standing, and the boys holding hands in a circle with the words “sometimes your hands could use a hand” refer to us all being in life together, and he we should all help each other out. The image of the woman riding a bicycle represents her doing what she loves, and going along with life’s journey. The image below that of the kids in the middle of the road represent being silly and having fun on life’s travels (since they are in the middle of a street). The image of the woman in the top right corner conveyed happiness to me, which was one of the main points of my collage, so I thought I would include it. The words that say, “what’s your angle?” represent all of the “angles” or views that different people in the world have. The image of the man below that represents hard work, and although it does pay off, it is hard, tiring and frustrating. The words “sincerely, me” at the bottom represent me and how all of the images cohesively are my thoughts, and therefore me.
Philosophical Thought:
One of my philosophical ideas is that everyone should be happy. Everyone deserves to be happy, unless it harms another person. Not much else matters. People need to stop worrying about what other people think and just be happy. It’s hard, and there are definitely days that we aren’t happy, but I think it’s the most important part of life. What do we have if we aren’t happy? I also believe that everyone should explore all that life has to offer. I also think that hard work pays off, and you make your own luck in this world. We as a human race should stick together, and it is important to have good friends while going through life.
