What is Media Studies?

The Integrated Media Studies classes are mandatory, trimester, non-elective courses, grades 9-11 that are integrated into the cultural history curriculum. In all the Media Studies courses, students learn to deconstruct and construct media via collaborative and individual projects and activities, production, discussion, and written reflection. This is a double-period class.

philosophy, artist statement, and collage

Growing up changes our perception of the world around us; Sometimes we notice the bad and sometimes the good, but it is always more real than before. I look back fondly on my innocent childhood. Sometimes I wish I could always be that little girl catching frogs in a pond, but then I would miss out on the things still to come that I have not noticed yet. Life is too complicated for just good or bad. The blend of black white and the grey in between makes the world and life beautiful. Anyone who can be happy in the present moment, not concerning past or future experiences, they have the wisest mind of all for it is truly connected to the rest of the body, at peace.

Do not dwell in the past,

Do not dream of the future,

Concentrate the mind on the present moment.

-Buddha

my collage represents nature and peace at mind, that heels me and helps me find myself. The woman running is me running to find truth, not sure where it is, but the ocean creature shocks me back to who i am and where the truth is. The water for me heals my inner being and creates calmness and peace in my mind, along with reflecting myself as a person on earth. The feather of a bird is also another medicinal tool that guides me and points me in the right direction. So the feather in this collage is pointing to the sea making my health better. Buddha is my leader, i strive to find the present moment like he does, and the luck within himself. The flowers and fresh foods represent life and using what is on our planet in its pure form to keep us.
